3 Ways to Speed Up Your Printer

Have you ever wished the photocopier in your office was a bit quicker? You need to print a document for a meeting that’s about to start or an urgent letter that needs to be at the post office before it shuts, but it just takes too long. You could buy a brand new, more expensive machine, however, there are some simple universal steps you can take with your MFP (multi-functional printer) to make it run faster.
File size
Be aware that the sped of any printer is often limited by the ‘file size’ of the job you’re trying to print. This will be influenced by how complicated the document is, from how many pages it is made up of to the number of images stored within it. So, when it comes to speeding up your print job, look at what it is you’re printing. For example, if it’s a colour document you can set it to print as black & white or look at the settings and choose to print at a lower resolution.
Processing power

The processing power of the printing device itself can also have an impact on speed. Typically, the best way to get more from your printer is to increase the memory. That will help to increase the speed and the power to process any jobs in the queue. You can purchase additional memory as an optional upgrade – either at the time of purchase or, if you find your business needs warrant it, later on.

Not all machines will have this option, but the majority of devices will have a second slot where you can add the additional memory. For example, if a standard printer comes with 3GB of memory, you’ll find there is a spare slot that will allow you to add a further 1GB of memory at a later date.

One good reason for buying additional memory is business growth. Rather than looking to buy a new printer, simply opting for more memory in your current device will more than meet the needs of any growing small business.

Other options

When you’re at your PC, if your MFP has this function, you can set any future print jobs to go to Document Filing, so that they’ll be stored on the Hard Disk and that means in future that same file can be very quickly be pulled up from Document Filing and printed. Because the device itself already holds that job it can very quickly print it in the future.
