The school is a high performing specialist academy for the Performing Arts, Applied Learning and Languages and is a secondary modern school for girls aged 11 to 16. It has a tradition of an orderly and caring environment and of high academic standards.
Identifying a problem
Originally, the school invested in a variety of printers from a number of different manufacturers. This meant that management of the schools print fleet was time consuming and when errors occurred, costly to repair and maintain. The printers did not have duplex functionality, were slow for the schools requirements and the majority only printed black and white. Furthermore, Walton Girls’ High School and Sixth Form found their current running costs were very high which was escalated by a large number of wasted print jobs. The school wanted to find a way to provide easy and convenient printing for all its students. The printers needed to be ecofriendly, fast and easy to use. Like many schools, Walton had a budget to manage and therefore wanted to invest in products which would help them to reduce their total cost of ownership and manage costs. One potential solution for the school was an accessible printing room where pupils could collect their printed work from a conveniently located central point. However, feedback from pupils indicated that an alternative solution would be a number of printers positioned in key areas throughout the school.
After a review of the Walton’s existing solution and based on the schools requirements, Epson recommended the installation of the WorkForce Pro range of inkjet printers. This is a series of single and multi-function printers offering laser-like looks and performance, combined with great reliability and up to 50 percent lower cost per page than competitive laser1 printers. Walton school wanted a range of networked printers with remote management facilities for identifying problems such as paper jams, and monitoring ink levels and other errors.
Epson installed a number of WorkForce Pro units based on 50% lower running costs and up to 80% lower energy consumption. These high-speed, colour inkjet printers offer a genuine alternative to laser products and provide further cost savings due to a super-fast automatic double-sided printing.
Furthermore with a print resolution of 4800×1200 dpi Walton Girls’ High School has benefited from clearer text and sharper images within their prints. The school now benefits from lower ink costs with a choice of high-yield cartridges of up to 3,400 pages which reduces the number of cartridges required over the lifetime of the printer. The school can now carry one set of ink rather than multiple brands meaning cost of ownership is highly reduced. So much so that rather than installing a number of printers in key areas throughout the school, Walton has been able exceed their initial goal and place one in every classroom.
Epson has now installed over 40 WorkForce Pro printers throughout the school for a significantly lower cost than their previous solution. With the convenience of the new Epson WorkForce Pro printers the students can now print more print jobs than ever before. Rob Canavan, Network Manager of Walton High School comments: “We are delighted with the cost effective and energy saving solution that Epson has provided. It is clear that even with colour printing the school has much lower overall costs then previously. Many members of staff have remarked on the ease of use of the printers, and how useful the remote scanning and faxing capabilities are. They have also seen a notable reduction in the use of the school’s photocopiers. This will reduce costs even further and over time could remove the need for photocopiers completely.”
